Sistem saraf adalah sistem
koordinasi (pengaturan tubuh) berupa penghantaran impul saraf ke susunan
saraf pusat, pemrosesan impul saraf dan perintah untuk memberi
tanggapan rangsangan. Unit terkecil pelaksanaan kerja sistem saraf
adalah sel saraf atau neuron. Sistem saraf sangat berperan dalam
iritabilitas tubuh. Iritabilitas memungkinkan makhluk hidup dapat
menyesuaikan diri dan menanggapi perubahan-perubahan yang terjadi di
lingkungannya. Jadi, iritabilitas adalah kemampuan menanggapi
rangsangan.
